Come to the Waters: A Paulist Spiritual Weekend in Historic Marietta, Ohio
Friday, August 16 through Sunday, August 18, 2024.

All are welcome to the Columbus Paulist Community Spiritual Weekend with Paulist Father Steve Bell in beautiful Marietta, Ohio.

Spirituality

Father Steve will present spiritually inspiring presentations at the First Congregational United Church of Christ located at 318 Front Street, Marietta. The First Congregational Church is the first organized church in Marietta (founded in 1796) and is now the oldest continuous worshiping fellowship west of the Alleghenies. First Congregational Church lives by the mission “No matter where you are in life’s journey, you are welcome here.” We are grateful that this community is extending their hospitality to our Columbus Paulist Community! Sitting in this worship space is like sitting among a 225-year history of worshipers. Since its beginning, the unusual exterior architecture includes two “bell cones,” as the Twin Towers are often referred to, patterned after the Hollis St. Congregational Church in Boston. How appropriate that the Paulist charism of Ecumenism should play out in this holy place.

The weekend will conclude with Sunday Mass and a brunch following on the historic Valley Gem sternwheel passenger vessel that runs on the Muskingum and Ohio Rivers.

Socializing

Breaking bread together! Weekend attendees can enjoy a relaxing Saturday afternoon picnic lunch along the banks of the Muskingum River in a park across the street from the Congregational Church and an evening dinner prepared by the Congregational Church community members.

Exploration

There will be ample time to visit historic Marietta sites, museums, and independent shops. Marietta is a walkable city and most attractions and venues are within walking distance.

Friday, August 16th
7:00 PM “Meet and Greet” with Father Steve and Rev. Carla Wobschall, Senior Minister at First Congregational, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 318 Front Street, in downtown Marietta.

Saturday, August 17th
9:00AM Join Michael Dickinson at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, 506 4th Street, Marietta, as he leads us through the Stations of the Cross
10:30AM Trolley tour. Board this 90-minute trolley at Armory Square, 241 Front Street. Board this trolley and learn the history of Marietta. Tickets are $15.00 per person. Seating is limited.
12:15PM Picnic lunch in the Muskingum Park across from the Congregational Church. Lunch is provided.
1:30PM Prayer and presentation with Fr. Steve following lunch.
3:00PM Rosary led by Ana Berrios in the Riverbank Park
5:00PM Dinner in Muskingum Park across from the Congregational Church. Dinner provided.
6:30PM Prayer and presentation with Fr. Steve at the Congregational Church

Sunday, August 18th
10:30AM Arrive at the Valley Gem Boat Dock, 531 Front St., at 10:30 to begin boarding the historic Valley Gem for Sunday Mass with Fr. Steve, celebrant, followed by brunch on board. Boat departs promptly at 11am.

Lodging

A block of rooms are available under Paulist Weekend at the Comfort Suites, 202 Cherry Tree Lane, Marietta, OH, 45750. 740-376-1600.
Double rooms: $89 plus tax per night. These rooms are blocked for either one-night or two-nights stays. When you make your reservation, tell them whether you are booking a room for a one-night or two-night stay.

Items to bring for this weekend!

Bring your own coolers, drinks, lawn chairs and blankets etc.

  • Option A – I am planning on attending the entire weekend, August 16th-18th. $75 per person (plus $3 credit card fee) – Includes the 2-hour boat trip on Sunday. Lodging not included.
  • Option B – I am planning to attend only on Saturday, August 17th. $25 per person (plus $3 credit card fee) – includes lunch and dinner
  • Option C – I am planning to attend only on Sunday, August 18th. $50 per person (plus $3 credit card fee) – Includes Sunday Mass, brunch, and a two-hour boat trip on the Ohio River)
  • Option D – I cannot attend but want to donate to the weekend. Please invoice me for the amount noted in the email

Reservations must be emailed to columbuspaulistcommunity@gmail.com by July 31st.
You will be invoiced for the option of your choice. Once you pay the invoice by check or credit card, you’ll receive a confirmation.
